[Drinks for vegans!] Don’t miss the last Vegan Drinks of the super humid months! Show up at 7pm on Thursday, August 26th, order a drink (or two or three) and meet some new friends! As always Vegan Drinks NYC takes place at Angels & Kings Bar in the East Village. The drink specials are CHEAP: $2 off everything until 8pm and then it’s $1 off draft beers and well drinks from 8pm to 9pm. Folks who don’t drink alcohol are also quite welcome, but you do have to be 21 to get in. We’ll turn down the music around 8:15pm and encourage people to promote themselves, their groups and/or causes for 30 seconds. If you represent a veg*n or animal rights group, come prepared with your (very short!) spiel and literature. Do you fancy yourself a decent photographer? Or, do you, at least, own a very nice camera capable of taking very good photos? If so, bring it with you on Thursday. Shoot a bunch of pictures. Upload them to our Flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/vegandrinks . Check out our map of restaurants near Angels & Kings where you can grab a bite after the event. And if you haven’t already, link up with Vegan Drinks on Facebook and MySpace . Vegan Drinks is held from 7…

SuperVegan To Be Featured in Time Out New York

7d9987d1d0t logo.jpg 150x102 SuperVegan To Be Featured in Time Out New York

Editor’s Update: Clearly Rudy made some very inappropriate statements in this blog post and in his interview with Time Out. We are leaving the post up in the interest of transparency, but please note that we have fired “Brownbird” Rudy “Relic” and will be making other changes to address such inappropriate anti-vegan behavior at SuperVegan . New York City is a bastion of imagination; a city that literally thrives on creativity. SuperVegan is lucky to be a part of that dichotomy. Next week’s Time Out New York will spotlight the blogs that make NYC special and we’re fortunate to be included! Here’s a sneak peek at our interview! What Makes SuperVegan super? That we are a not just a blog, but a community too, plus we have the best New York City restaurant guide in the world . Our content is lively and fun. We try to stay away from all of the animal rights BS out there and try to focus on the enjoyable things about being a vegan in NYC. We leave all the crazy protest-type stuff to the militant goose-steppers – that’s not us. What’s the biggest misconception about Veganism? That honey is not vegan. There’s plenty of debate out there for and against it; thankfully the general consensus is that honey is vegan…

This week’s Vegan Drinks NYC takes place on Thursday, February 25, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Angels & Kings bar! Our resident happy maker, DJ Lil Ray , will bring the music. A handful of lucky folks will leave with some new vegan reading material we’ll be giving away. As always, the drinks are kind to your wallet ($3 domestics, $4 imports and $1 off well drinks) and the crowd is a friendly, yet motley crew. We’ll turn down the music around 8:15pm and encourage people to promote themselves, their groups and/or causes for 30 seconds. If you represent a veg*n or animal rights group, come prepared with your (very short!) spiel and literature. ["Show me what Vegan Drinks looks like!" "This is what Vegan Drinks looks like!" (More photos by Matthew Mitchell and Jason Das available on Flickr .)] Thank you, New York City. On Thursday, January 28th, in a little over two hours, we sold $1,450 worth of sweet and savory treats at our Vegan Bake Sale for Haiti ! Not too shabby for a little bake sale in the corner of a bar on a frigid winter night. Sodopreca and Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) will receive their checks soon! Extra special, cherry-on-top thanks to those of you who baked! We had the most fantastic line-up of treats — Hostess-style cupcakes, personal pizzas, gourmet chocolates (thanks, Lauren at Sweet Compassion ), spinach pies, brownies and cookies of all sorts, doggy- and heart-shaped gingerbread cookies (courtesy of Patti at Baked Ideas ), more cupcakes (thanks to everyone who made cupcakes and Allison at Minor Treat ) and even bagels! This week’s Vegan Drinks marked our 21st event in NYC. (Vegan Drinks is now in 19 cities! Welcome, Nashville !) To celebrate, we gave away Sambazon , Alex Jamieson’s new book, Living Vegan…

The SuperVegan Round-Up, December 18: Vegan Treats, Vegan Drinks, and Dennis Kucinich and vegan brownies

b4cc77dfb2cinich 138x150 The SuperVegan Round Up, December 18: Vegan Treats, Vegan Drinks, and Dennis Kucinich and vegan brownies

We partied at Vegan Drinks like never before. This slideshow proves it! Excellent photography, Mr. Mitchell . Danielle Konya of Vegan Treats baked vegan cookies on NBC’s The 10! Show . Representative Dennis Kucinich, Democrat from Ohio and two-time presidential hopeful, told Reddit in an interview that he wants everyone to eat vegan brownies . (Hey, me too!) Scroll over to about minute 18 to watch him answer this question: “If you were made the absolute dictator of the U.S. for one day, what are some of the things you would do?” [ Comments (0) | Add Your Comment ]

The SuperVegan Round-up, December 16: Rambunctious octopus, Vegan Drinks, FS donations, Patterson on AR, Teany’s comeback, ice cream ON FIRE, and much more

ca65b616eaephant 150x138 The SuperVegan Round up, December 16: Rambunctious octopus, Vegan Drinks, FS donations, Patterson on AR, Teanys comeback, ice cream ON FIRE, and much more

[Someone poke this man with a knife.] Vegan Drinks is TOMORROW. Free stuff, and booze, and vegans, and what else could you want for a Thursday night? Teany’s coming back, y’all! The teahouse/maker of delicious baked goods and light meals just began rebuilding the space, more than six months after a fire put them out of business. Pleasepleaseplease, chicken salad melt, come back!! Feeling generous? Or, hey, feeling like a greedy, selfish scumbag? ‘Til the end of the year, your donations to Farm Sanctuary will be matched TIMES TWO by some secret and super generous donor for the rest of ‘09. Easy math: $1 for you = $3 for a cuddly lamb or frisky pig. So if you were planning to give nothing because you thought $20 wasn’t good enough (which it totally is!), now you’re giving $60, and that’s, what? Food for a family of four (goats) for a week or two, right? OK, guys, more easy math: Buy one of Isa’s cookbooks and she will donate ALL the proceeds to Out to Pasture Animal Sanctuary . Christmas shopping: done…

Vegan Drinks XIX: The Recap

a0be29fcdcgo 183 150x150 Vegan Drinks XIX: The Recap

The November 19th installment of Vegan Drinks featured a solid lineup. Fresh faces mixed with the very familiar ones. DJ Lil Ray kept the crowd in steady beats. Angels & Kings bartender Jesse replenished drinks effortlessly. And, David from Farm Sanctuary helped us all to adopt turkeys, pigs and cows just in time for the start of the winter holiday season. We owe a special thanks to our friends who donated Farm Sanctuary memberships and adoptions for us to give away to three lucky folks in the crowd. The people lined up to spread their messages during “Shout Outs.” David announced a plethora of upcoming Farm Sanctuary events. Joyce introduced us to Pets for Life NYC . Kneel revealed that Vegetable Slut has a new Web site and vegan-friendly designs for sale. Abby made an appeal for one of the dogs on Friday’s euthanasia list at Animal Care & Control and offered her assistance to anyone who could foster the dog. We plugged Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s and Terry Hope Romero’s new cookbook, Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar , which will get the book release…
