How come nobody claims English heritage on St Georges Day? How come there are no special foods associated with St Andrew’s Day and how come……..I can’t remember the patron saint of Wales, Dewi or something of that ilk and who cares anyway? Today is St Patrick’s Day and if everyone who claimed Irish roots were to return to the old sod to celebrate it would surely sink. But then I suppose that’s a blessing because the locals would be scratching their heads at the antics of so-called Irishmen and muttering quaint greetings like “Bejasus I’m banjaxed” which roughly translated means what the f@ck are these cretins up to? Green is the national colour but that’s as far as it goes. We don’t drink green beer, the black stuff does just fine and what’s this thing about corned beef? The only corned beef I ever tasted in Ireland came out of a tin from South America and tasted foul. There’ll be no green pea hummus, guacamole or salsa verde and definitely no broccoli. No-one will be tucking in to Guinness Plum Cakes or Chocolate Stout Cupcakes with Irish Whiskey filling or even Bailey’s Irish Cream cheesecake.
