These Whack-a-Mole cupcakes are by Vancouver, Canada’s C&C Cakery (via Flickr ) for their Pacific National Exhibition. They write: A local company (that big one that keeps your lights going) contacted C&C to help with fundraising for their own Canstuction team. Their sculpture’s theme is, of course, top secret, but they’re muse lives within the PNE’s arcade games. So, taking that as our inspiration, we whipped up six dozen Whack-A-Mole themed cupcakes: Now, moles aren’t very cute looking. Google it. No one would want those things coming out of their cupcakes. So we played with the design and made it a bit more cutesy – little pink noses, chocolate cheeks, and big ol’ eyeballs. We made our vanilla beanie and chocolate yogurt cake, and covered them with naturally flavoured raspberry, blueberry and lemon cream cheese buttercream. Seriously yum.

This personalized Lea cupcake is part of the “Amanda Loves” project , a daily project for 2010 of 365 days of inspiration (this is day 104 of 365) – via Flickr . Cupcakes have also made a few other appearances . Amanda writes: Lea is a darling girl with whom I work and I show my care for her by randomly personalizing baked goods by writing her name on them with icing. Check out these custom Valentine’s Day “I Blah You” cupcakes – a private joke upon request from a custom, by Sugar Siren in Mackay, Australia! They can also be found on Facebook and you can place orders by emailing sugarsirencakes at gmail.com They were dark chocolate mud cake cupcakes with a rich chocolate buttercream made with chocolate ganache. All the toppers were edible & made from marshmallow fondant. From the blog Not So Humble Pie come these Jumbo “Hostess” binary cupcakes (go there for the recipe). Via @notsohumblepie on Twitter . But be warned…she writes about some of the travails of making the filling: Let me tell you all, there are some really gross filling recipes out there! One that I tried was basically sweetened country-style gravy. I gave it a shot because it was reminiscent of pastry cream–minus the egg yolks–and although I was skeptical, the recipe’s reviewers seemed to like it. So I gave it a shot, and wow… it was so incredibly vile. That was failure number one. Two and three were much better but they either lacked the right texture or the filling absorbed into cake within 24 hours. Eventually, I figured that whatever was inside a hostess cupcake was not man-made and was created with technology on par with CERN’s new Hadron Collider. So I gave up. That is, until I had a breakthrough while making fudge for the holidays… I was going through a lot of marshmallow creme and while noshing on a spoon it came to me….this stuff is pretty close! This period table of elements made with cupcakes has been all the rage of the blogosphere the past few days. It’s by Katherine at Foodie Friday (via Neatorama and she writes: I helped my little sister bake these periodic table cupcakes for her birthday party tomorrow.
