Father Figures?

ccd60a1841ersday.jpg 150x110 Father Figures?

Yeah, yeah, I know Father’s Day is over, but if I don’t share these Wrecks now then I’ll be the only one having nightmares. And we can’t have that , now, can we? Hold me. Tighter. “Hi there! I’m the face of your future nightmares!” “See you real soon! Heehee !! ” Thank goodness for that plastic plaque; at least something here is edible. So, what do you get for a #1 Dad? I’ll give you two guesses. Here’s a hint: Thanks to Nicole B., Travis P., Sherrill R., Angie L., Melissa S., & Michael M., who, despite the nightmares, still prefer sawing logs to…er…yeah, never mind. I totally just grossed myself out.

Cupcake Proportions – An inside look at Cupcakes by Joy

134188eee70f5946.jpg 150x112 Cupcake Proportions An inside look at Cupcakes by Joy

After watching almost fifty of these cupcakes disappear with a content murmur at our recent cupcake picnic, I wanted to share a peak inside each cupcake to show the careful proportions. We’ve all remembered cupcakes that are almost mouthfuls of only cake, or practically flopping over from too much frosting. I think that’s why filled cupcakes have such appeal, because they break up each bite into a balanced mix of different elements. Vanilla cupcake with peanut butter cream filling, chocolate and peanut butter frosting. Lemon cupcake with blueberry filling, cream cheese frosting, and topped with a blueberry.

Isn’t It Ironic? Don’t Ya Think?

I guess there wasn’t room to add “In Math.” * headdesk * Take heart, Peter; you only have to turn one once. Amy M., Aliesha K., & Melissa M., this is like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife. Only, you know, in an ironic kind of way. – Related Wreckage: Sweet, Sweet Irony

Cupcakes VS Cakes at the NY Cake Convention

0c83780f0abutton 120x150 Cupcakes VS Cakes at the NY Cake Convention

This weekend marked the launch of the first annual New York Cake Convention at the Hotel Pennsylvania. The convention was split into many sections catering to anyone from beginners to professionals. There were classes for kids, demonstrations, vendors, live challenges, and a display room of all the contest entries. The general entry fee was $10, but most of the events required separate registration. Granted, there were a few kinks that still needed to be worked out, but time and experience will fix that. We were particularly intrigued by the Cupcakes V.S. Cake “FACE OFF” event, with a grand prize of $2500. Three winners from each category would be picked and the first place winner from each would then be compared against the other to determine the final winner. Thus, this formal competition put the debate of cupcakes against cakes up to the test. What form would prevail? Needless to say, we’re a tad biased.

Cupcake Tea at the NYC Ritz-Carlton

631c0f0bf80b3646 150x100 Cupcake Tea at the NYC Ritz Carlton

Cupcakes Take the Cake took on the Cupcake Tea at the Ritz-Carlton and it was lovely. I’ll leave it for Nichelle, Rachel, and intern Melissa to give their opinions on the tea, as I wasn’t feeling my best, but I will share the pictures of the yumminess with you guys. Here’s intern Melissa, Suzet (our sweet server), Nichelle, and Rachel. The tea included five mini-cupcakes: Sicilian Pistachio and Almond, Coconut Cream, Valrhona Chocolate, Strawberry Shortcake, and Red Velvet. The Sicilian Pistachio and Almond: And split open: The Valrhona Chocolate: The Strawberry Shortcake (bisected): and intact: This was my favorite flavor, mostly because it wasn’t too sweet and the strawberry was pronounced. I favor fruit-flavor desserts over chocolate. The Red Velvet: Cut in half: The Coconut Cream: The Coconut Cream was the other filled mini. I had my first Chai Tea (and it as very, very sweet): Nichelle, Melissa, and Rachel, with cupcakes. The tea is at 50 Central Park South and I believe it costs $25 per person. There’s also a holiday cupcake tea coming up, from November 27, 2009 to January 3, 2010, and will feature: …
