Look here, I’m not an unreasonable guy, I’d like to save the world, the rainforests, the polar ice cap, whales and Wales but sometimes the bunny huggers make me want to do a Luke Watson and throw up – they’re just so bloody PC it makes me cringe. It seems everyone is into providing consumers with detailed information on the sources and background of their products and that’s no bad thing but trust the bloody Yanks to make it so flesh creeping goody goody. There’s a crowd out in San Francisco (where else?), home of the flower children and good old down to earth wierdos, called Original Beans, who produce single origin chocolate bars de luxe which are specially refined with respect to the region they are harvested from: the Republic of Congo, Ecuador and Bolivia. For each bar sold, Original Beans plants a tree in the rainforest where the bar’s ingredients originated. A bit twee but I can live with it I suppose however the whammy is that each bar carries a certificate inside the wrapper with a lot number that designates the location of a new tree.
