Vegas, Arizona, Southern Utah cupcakeries?

Hi cupcake-lovin’ world! I am taking a trip to Vegas (and surrounding area) over the winter holidays, and will be driving to Arizona to check out Sedona, the Grand Canyon (of course), and Flagstaff on up to Page. Maybe even venturing into southern-central Utah for a bit. Any cupcakeries in the area you folks recommend? Please leave suggestions in the comments section. And, if you are running a bakery/cupcakery in the area and want me to try/photograph your cupcakes, shoot me an off-list email at: thepixeltrix (at) gmail (dot) com Thanks!

yellowtail to the rescue

Are there animal products in your tipple? Insidious ingredients like gelatin, egg whites, fish oil, and casein often make their way into beers, wines and some liquors. The good news is that all Yellowtail red wines are vegan. These inexpensive table vinos [usually $6-9 in my area] pair well with so many foods. I am especially partial to the Shiraz. They aren’t fine wines, per se, but since I’m not made of money, they work perfectly fine for me. Is your wine is vegan? Check out Barnivore.

Hemp-y Yogurt

Here’s a quick food idea for you that is very nourishing. I’ve been eating it most mornings recently, after having my green smoothie . As with my last post , hemp seeds are the star here. This time, it’s as simple as topping some non-dairy yogurt with a whollop of those nutritious hemp seeds! I use a soy yogurt, since that’s the only non-dairy yogurt available in my area, but if you can try it with coconut or rice yogurt, I’m guessing it might be even better! My mornings are hectic, and breakfast is the only meal that I eat “on-the-go” during the week (well, some weekend mornings as well). Yogurt + hemp seeds is about as quick as you can get! And, honestly, I don’t think I’d bother eating the yogurt if it wasn’t for the hemp …

iPhone App Tells What Produce Is In Season

30bd1cf15acavore 81x150 iPhone App Tells What Produce Is In Season

An iPhone application called Locavore tells you which fruits and vegetables are in season at any given time in your area. Just tell it where you live, and then select the “currently in season” option for the list of foods. You can also see foods that will be in season soon, and get a listing of local farmers markets.
